The Catholic Church in the United States will celebrate National Vocations Awareness Week (NVAW), November 5-11, 2017. This annual event is a special time for parishes in the United States to actively foster and pray for a culture of vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life.
NVAW, sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life, and Vocations, is designed to help promote vocation awareness and to encourage young people to ask the question: “To what vocation in life is God calling me?” Parish and school communities across the nation are encouraged to include, during the first full week in November, prayer and special activities that focus on vocation awareness.
Observance of Vocation Awareness Week began in 1976 when the U.S. bishops designated the 28th Sunday of the year for the celebration. It was later moved to Feast of the Baptism of the Lord in January. The USCCB Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations moved the observance of National Vocation Awareness Week to November to engage Catholic schools and colleges more effectively in this effort.

Katie Robben spoke at mass about her work with the Holy Cross in Uganda, Africa. If you would to learn more about their ministry and Katie’s spiritual journey you can visit her blog at the link below:
If you feel called to give a monetary gift to their ministry, please make checks payable to Holy Cross Missions Center. Please remember to write Katie Robben Uganda on the memo line so the mission center knows exactly where the money should go. Please send the check to P.O. Box 341 in Breese. They are a certified 501(c)(3) so your donations are tax deductible. The center will then transfer the money to Katie’s Ugandan account. Please remember to keep Katie, Holy Cross and their ministry in your prayers.

Many Catholic parishes but fewer Catholic priests. Into My Vineyard will help train dedicated lay men and women to assist the Pastor of their parish. Participants will meet once a month, on Saturdays (in Belleville, Marion, or Mt. Vernon). It is a 2-year program to train well-qualified servant-leaders for ministry in our parishes throughout our Diocese. For more information click on the attached link.
